Yo Bros.
Its been a while. I just got back from France this week. I rented a car in Paris and drove all over Normandie for 5 days. Not anywhere near long enough but I'm sure I'll get back someday.
I went to every village you can imagine from Carentan and St. Mere Eglise to Bayeux and Dieppe. I stopped at every one of the 5 beaches and pointe du hoc (my favorite). I stopped at some of the monuments and the cemeteries which are absolutely humbling to say the least.
I visited a few of the museums which had some amazing artifacts and stories. Unfortunately there was a ton I couldn't see because of time constraints and I would have loved to spend more time in the places I did see, but what can you do.
The people there are unbelievably friendly. I spent one night in Longue-sur-mer, which is a small town which contained a large battery of coastal guns. The guns and town were seized by Canadian troops on June 7 1944. When the people in the local bar found out I was Canadian they bought me Normandie Cider until 3:30 in the morning. The following day the local bakery didn't charge me when I went in to purchase my daily baguet, cheese and bottle of wine because they knew where I was from. Crazy to see that it still means that much to these people 64 years later. Villages all over Normandie are packed full of British, American and Canadian flags.
I've been fortunate enough to travel all over the world; but of all the places I've been, I've never experienced anything quite like Normandie. Its a truly amazing place and if you ever get the chance to go, take full advantage. Here are some photos that I took. If bandwidth wasn't an issue I'd post 'em all.
I took well over 500 photos so if there is anything you ever wanted to see let me know I'm sure I have a pic of it.
