www.armedassault.com/www.armedassault.org/web2/if you've ever played Operation Flashpoint, you should be extremely excited about this game. a VERY detailed military strategy/tactical simulator (not shooter, technically.) it shouldn't be too long before a demo is out!

So this looks like a FPS, what is it that makes it different?

Here's what I found interesting.
"...4 degrees of freedom currently working in Armed Assault. That includes looking around, leaning left and right, zooming in and out by leaning forward."

there's more to it than shooting stuff! navigation by compass and map and coordination with air, ground and sea units to make the most effective strikes.

I think its like a FPS/RTS/MMORPG all rolled into one? Thats just what it seems like. Seems like nobody can exactly pin down what to call it....

well from the past games, i know that it's a complete battlefield simulator. it's like batllefield, except not arcadey or unrealistic in any way.
from their mouths:
"Brought to you by the creators of Operation Flashpoint*: Armed Assault (ArmA) will reacquaint gamers with the ultimate in realistic, combat gaming.
ArmA features a new engine with a fresh modern setting and focuses on freedom of action and immersive complex environments, blended with a unique touch of total simulation, based on a technology used to train real soldiers around the world, including U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army and Australian Defense Forces.
“We aim to again deliver the ultimate military simulation for PC, improving the successful gameplay formula of our debut PC game release Operation Flashpoint. It’s refreshing for us to focus again on PC game development after years spent working on the Xbox platform and we work hard to make sure not to disappoint the expectations of the great community that built around Operation Flashpoint with this new game.” explains Marek Spanel, director and co-founder of Bohemia Interactive.
In ArmA, players will be able to seamlessly explore massive environments (over 200 sq. kilometres) and combat intelligent enemies that try to out think and outmaneuver you. In ArmA it is important to preserve the lives of yourself and your squad members in the heat of a modern armed conflict. Jump into any of a large selection of available vehicles, including armored vehicles and aircraft."

the engine makes it REALLY easy to make your own 200 sq. km map, place anything in the world on it and lets you set any rules you wish. only, it's not like game rules...they're rules of war. with 32 men on each side, there's the possibility of a 4 squad war that can literally last for weeks with air power, ground vehicles, tank divisions, mortar teams, artillery, you name it. it's our own little sandbox full of explosives!
also, shortly after operation flashpoint came out back in like 2000...there was a GREAT WWII mod. i'm sure someome will have one made, if they're not working on it already.

This will be really cool. It also seems from their statements to have co-op support (like BFVietnam did) which will be nice for those servers that can't quite fill up. How about sending a couple AI bots up in air support to deal with the plane-raping whores while you concentrate on the ground war? lol

the AI in the previous versions was VISCIOUS. very smart tactically AND strategically. I mostly played co-ops because the AI was more unpredicable than human opponents.
as for lone-wolfing...forget about it. you'll get lost and/or killed pretty quickly. navigation is half the battle!
and yes, you can assign the AI to any aspect of any force.
Usually, it'll be like a 64 or 128 player map, with the AI automatically filling any slots that aren't occupied by humans.

That's the way the servers I played co-op in BFV did it. Any slots not taken up by human players were filled with bots, and as a player would come online they would take a bot's place.
In BFV the bots were pretty damn good shots, but couldn't fly for shit without crashing.
And they always made me laugh, like when they'd jump in a jeep and take off and you'd yell "I need a ride!" and the damn bot would yell back "No, way!" and keep going.

Hell, the models look really well skinned. Not as blocky as what I've seen before it...(BF2 included). Looks like good old time for all.

According to the Forums on ArmA, we'll be able to import OUR OWN FACE and use it on our soldier.
OK dudes, I am soooo there. lol
This one seriously has gone to the top of my list.
Q1 2007 will be a good time. I currently have MOHA, ARMA, MTW2 and Crysis on my "absolutely-will-buy list, and the BF2 mods FH2 and Pirates2 that I plan to play. Man, how will I find the time for them all?
